PeeKnuckle
On Monday, the Miami Herald posted an article about rising support for legalized medical marijuana in the state of Florida. The article mentioned an pro-pot activist named Cathy Jordan, who uses the drug to mitigate the symptoms of Lou Gehrig's disease. The article mentioned Sen. Jeff Clemens (D-Lake worth), who is sponsoring a bill to legalize the drug. That bill is named after Jordan. The Bradeton Herald now reports that just hours after that article ran, a team of ski-mask-clad deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff's Department staged a guns-drawn raid on Robert and Cathy Jordan's home. According to Robert Jordan, the cops seized 23 marijuana plants, including the two mature plants his wife uses to treat her illness. They made no arrests. Read the rest, here. Makes me sick that they stormed their house with guns drawn and ski masks on. It's a woman who relies on a wheelchair and her 64 year old husband. They knew they didn't need their weapons drawn, but they were making an example out of Cathy. This is flat out bullying and it needs to stop. You can also check out Cathy's YouTube page - She's a wonderful woman who is going through a lot. Typically, you're given around 3-5 years of life expectancy after being diagnosed with Lou Gherig's Disease. Cathy's working on 26 years since she's been diagnosed. A truly remarkable achievement. PeeKnuckle
I'd like everyone to watch the video I posted in here. Now ask yourselves how anyone could come into that lady's house with guns drawn, wearing ski masks and terrorize her. It'll make you upset and you should be. We should all be pissed off and holding those in charge accountable.
Dateranoth
Man, that is just wrong. Absolutely unnecessary in every way. We really shouldn't stand for this crap. How anyone can think any part of that was the right thing to do is beyond me. I find it sad they even had officers willing to do this.
PeeKnuckle
I wanted to note something in case anyone read "23 plants" and thought that was a bit excessive. If she is using the Phoenix Tears treatment of cannabis, or something similar, you need a lot of plant matter to make that medicine. Law enforcement likes to highlight these types of cases since the general public isn't knowledgeable about it. An example would be something like this - We support the use of medical cannabis, but this 65 year old woman couldn't possibly smoke or ingest the amount of cannabis she had at her home.". They're right in a sense, unless you are referring to a person who is using a Phoenix Tears sort of treatment.
Dateranoth
I think it's fair to look at it as a crop too. Anyone who say, was dependent on a certain crop of tomatoes, wouldn't grow just one plant. You would grow multiple plants and store what you couldn't use for harder times or in case other plants failed.
PeeKnuckle
You and I understand that, but law enforcement refuses to see it that way. Anything over x amount and you're labeled a drug dealer with intent to distribute.
Dateranoth
Oh, I think they understand. They just don't care.

PeeKnuckle
Luckily, no arrests were made, but the case is being reviewed by the state attorney’s office. The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Jeff Clemens, was not amused:Clemens said Monday he was angry about the raid on the Jordan house.“Do we want to be the kind of state that raids the home of awoman in a wheelchair in order to enforce outdated laws?” Clemens saidMonday night.== “My wife is not happy,” Jordan said. “It really upset her. I am veryprotective of my wife. She can’t feed herself. She got really upset andstarted crying. None of this should have happened.”
Pogre
Bust into the house of a senior citizen with guns drawn, take their property and make no arrests. That's so fucked. Good way to make a point.
