  3. Publisher Deep Silver Working Quickly to Fill Restocking Orders LARKSPUR, Calif. – Sept. 13, 2011 - Deep Silver, the publisher of the summer’s biggest action horror blockbuster, Dead Island™ (www.deadisland.com), announced today that it has shipped more than 1 million retail copies of Dead Island in North America in the first few days of availability. In addition, Dead Island has held the #1 chart position in many global markets including the UK and France as well as on Steam, and will have sold 2 million units globally to retailers by the end of this week. Dead Island launched on September 6 in North America and has been lauded by U.S. critics: Game Informer Magazine said Dead Island “scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had” and awarded it an 8.5 out of 10, while IGN’s TeamXbox.com hails the Dead Island experience with a score of 9 out of 10 and an Editor’s Choice Award, "They do so much that hasn't been done, and do it so right.” Additionally, PC Gamer Magazine said of Dead Island that it’s “a wide-open tropical wonderland of loot-driven zombie slaughter” and tallied its score at an 8.3 out of 10 while MTV’s Gametrailers.com awarded Dead Island with an 8.5 out of 10 score. Developed by Techland, Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. The engaging survival-focused gameplay aspects are combined with a rich and immersive storyline in which a small group of people find themselves in a tropical paradise turned into total chaos and carnage after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island. “We’re thrilled at the retail reception Dead Island has achieved in its first few days,” said Geoff Mulligan, Chief Operating Officer at Deep Silver, “The critical ‘first week’ of game sales has been an enormous sales success for Deep Silver. We’re working quickly with our distribution partner in North America, Square Enix, to restock shelves as quickly as we can.” "With more than a million copies sold, I feel good knowing that the world is now more prepared than ever for what to do should a real zombie invasion ever threaten humanity." said Mike Fischer, president and CEO of Square Enix, Inc. Featuring four customizable, unique character classes and engrossing role-playing elements combined with an intense four player co-op experience, Dead Island stands out as one of the most comprehensive zombie experiences to date. Dead Island is available now for the suggested retail price of $59.99 for consoles and $49.99 PC. It is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. 5. Twisted Pixel’s 5th original IP, The Gunstringer Is Now In Stores Sept. 13th, 2011 - Austin, TX - Today is a red letter day for Twisted Pixel, as their first retail title, The Gunstringer, hits shelves nationwide. In The Gunstringer, you control the fiery gun-toting marionette through his adventures, combining solo platforming and shooting mechanics into fun, competitive action with a full suite of collectibles, unlockables, abilities, rewards and more. Our story begins with you buried alive and left for dead by your former posse. As a skeleton cowboy marionette you begin your journey of revenge, aided only by your gritty resolve and trusty pistol. Track your betrayers down, one by one, and bring justice upon them. They will pay a mean price on their own turf, from the plains of the high desert, to the swamps of the bayou, to the east Asian mountains, down to the depths of the undead underworld. Nothing can stand in your way, nothing will stop you on the vengeance trail. As a special bonus to celebrate the release of The Gunstringer, players can also download a free add-on pack for the game at launch called The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles which pits players against the time-traveling son of Wavy Tube Man, the first boss players battle in the game. As “The Stranger”, fight side by side with Wiley Wiggins as Future Buddy and Aisa Palomares as Future Vixen in this full live action epic. And let’s not forget the always unpredictable Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Films as Doc Lloyd as you aid him in reclaiming his stolen Time Traviz device. Along with the disc for The Gunstringer, the retail package will include a token code for the full downloadable version of Fruit Ninja Kinect via Xbox LIVE. Fruit Ninja Kinect is an amazing evolution of the slice-em-up genre created by Halfbrick, which brings the worldwide mobile gaming phenomenon to Kinect so you can use your arms as blades in an epic battle against the world’s most delicious produce. All this for $39.99 and in stores now!
  6. Graphically this is a stunning 2D sidescroller. The look of the game is very reminiscent of the latest Castlevania games. Backgrounds move independently from the foreground and enemies jump in and out from all directions. The game animations flow seamlessly between each other, much like Bayonetta. Enemies are extremely varied and are all just as well designed as Bloodrayne herself. The soundtrack is also another strong point for Bloodrayne Betrayal. From the title screen you get piano ballads worthy of being in any game music aficionado's collection. A mix of gothic rock and those same piano ballads are played throughout. Later they do become a little repetitive but overall it's a great soundtrack. There's even a hidden version of it that will make any 8-bit gamer smile. With one melee attack button and one shooting attack, there is a huge variety of moves to be done, which was surprising. By moving the analog stick you can change the variations. There is also a bite attack that you can suck the blood of your enemies to gain energy or infect your opponents and later detonate them like bombs. A little more exposition in the moves would have been nice, but discovering what Rayne can do is part of the charm. The main stumble here is in the platforming. Like most 2D action games it relies on platforming sections and platform puzzles for a large portion of the game play. However, Rayne doesn't control well enough to make these sections fun. Also, the game is pure old school NES era difficult. Lightweights need not apply here. Even some experienced gamers will fall prey to the occasional cheap death. All said and done, Bloodrayne Betrayal has a great old school feel with impressive new school graphics. From the start you will be drawn in by those graphics and the music will keep you around for a while. If you stick with the game you'll be rewarded with a deep fighting experience that gaming veterans will find enjoyable. If you're easily frustrated by harder games, I'd say give the demo a try and see if it's worth your money.
  7. As Sisyphus, you will roll your boulder through five different time periods. Each new level, you are given a castle and tasked with protecting your gate with towers, cows, dynamite barrels, and catapults. Here in lies the big problem with the game, the tower defense mechanic. While not completely bad, it truly is the weakest link in this chain of events. You are given a rather large play area to build your units that are used to protect your castle. As with most tower defense, you pay money for each unit. The bigger the unit the more it costs to build. While this sounds good in theory, the cursor for placing units is a little tough to control. Also, the AI is sometimes overpowering. Easily placing its units on the field with lightning speed while you are dealing with the unwieldy cursor. The mechanic gets some better as you get used to it, but never quite feels right. The Marble Madness portions of the game are where the real fun begins. Once your minions have constructed your boulder you are given the option to add armaments to it such as spikes, flames, etc. These will make it not only more powerful when it hits the enemy gate, but also more resilient to the enemies defenses. As you roll down the hill you will be smashing and jumping the defenses that your enemy has set up. Smashing enemy units will net you more cash to spend towards setting up your next round of units after you hit the enemy gate. When you are near the enemy gate you want to try and gain as much momentum as possible and hit that gate as hard as you can. If you are able to smash through the enemy gate before he gets through yours, he or she will scream in terror. Upon smashing the enemy leader you will continue to the next round. There are 2 modes of Split Screen or Xbox Live multiplayer. War is the exact same as the main story mode. SkeeBoulder has each player rolling down a hill smashing different items littered around to increase the score and then aiming at a target to gain multipliers. It is fun for the first few rounds but becomes extremely repetitive as it never changes. More options for SkeeBoulder really would extend the life of multiplayer. Instead we get a couple of modes that are good to goof around with but never fully develops in to something with staying power. Overall Rock of Ages is a fun game. The Monty Python visuals are a big draw for me and the Marble Madness-esque sections are a blast. Tower Defense and Multiplayer are lacking in polish but don't drag the game down all that much. ACE Team has come out very strong with their second game. With a little more time spent; I think this could have easily been a sleeper hit. I'd recommend giving the demo a try. I’m willing to bet you laugh more than once.
  8. Well, some of them are review copies that I've gotten. Quite a few actually. Went through and cleaned out all the demos and everything I had sitting there before posting. That number includes indie games too, so it's a little inflated. Still crazy. Some of them I haven't ever even started up. Purchased and they just sit there. Same way with Steam games. Then again, I'll never match your Steam total Dat. lol
  9. Correct, you have to buy the "Class Packs" to unlock the entire game to be able to play. You can get the All Class Pack for 1200 space bucks. However, if you purchased all 5 of the Summer of Arcade games, you will get the game for free. Guess I need to go ahead and pick up Bastion to complete out the SoA games. Just what I need another XBLA game. Will total 132 at that point. UGH!
  10. "Slicing" may be a bit generous here. While the mechanic works great, it becomes more of a flailing of your arms than precise ninja like skills. It's not as easy to pick up and play as the mobile version, but overall it works much better than anticipated. There are multiple game modes to keep you entertained. Classic Mode asks you to slice as many pieces of fruit as possible without slicing a bomb or missing 3 pieces of fruit. Arcade Mode adds in bonus bananas that can double your points, freeze the timer, or put everything in slow motion. Zen Mode is pretty straightforward. You get 90 seconds to slice as much fruit as possible. No bombs. Halfbrick has also added in multiplayer. Competitive 2 player mode highlights fruit red or blue and slicing your opponent’s fruit reduces your points. There is also team based multiplayer where you are out to get more points than the opposing team. It really was the most fun I have had in any Kinect multiplayer game to date. Last, but not least is Challenge Mode. When you go to this mode, your Fruit Master gives you different goals to achieve. They will range from generic "Score 250 in Classic Mode" or it will pull directly from your friends list and tell you to beat the highest score. It became addictive trying to beat the others on my friends list and gloating to them over messages when I finally did. The only drawback to the game is the menu interface. The hands-free control just feels clunky and will cause frustration when you select something you didn't mean to select. It is a small problem, but really did frustrate me at some points. Especially in the unlockable screen. Speaking of unlockable, there is a lengthy list of new blades, backgrounds, and shadow textures to unlock. As with the main menu though, selecting these is an exercise in frustration. Halfbrick really did a great job of taking a dead simple mobile game and translating it to the Kinect. Menu problems aside, the game is addicting and chock full of fun, especially with friends. There's nothing more satisfying than getting that 9 hit combo at the last second to beat your friend's high score. I highly recommend this to any fan of the mobile versions of the game. Now, go my pupil and slice some fruit.
  11. Big Science labs is the setting for this latest entry and much like the 2 games in the series, none of the experiments are going quite as planned. With Splosion Man captured, she will have to utilize all the gadgets in the lab to save him from the Mighty Eternal. Much like the full non-pinball game, the main goal of the table is to 'splode' as much as possible to save him. The aesthetic of the table really does a great job of conveying the feel of the Splosion Man universe. Bright colored explosions, the now classic Ms. Splosion Man voiceovers, even the alternating colored light gates all make their way to the table. As with the Marvel tables, Ms. Splosion Man is another hit for Pinball FX 2. Any fan of the game or the Splosion Man series would be doing themselves a disservice by skipping this table. Graphically the table is great and gives you tons to look at. The sound is, as with the Splosion series, top notch. In short, go get it.

    Bastion

Anybody pick this up? I know it's an RPG and I'm a staunch RPG hater, but the demo intrigued me quite a bit. Just wondering if it's more action than RPG.
  13. Actually added new blade, background, shadow, and cheevos. The blade is pretty cool, when you slice it makes lightning come from your hands like Zeus. I love the game so much. I own it on literally every device I can at this point.
  14. Wish I'd been playing it for a solid month. I've been bouncing around my backlog so much lately I get stories mixed up.

Only played the XBLA version. No real issues for me.
  16. I don't know how many members here have Kinect, but I'll tell you now, Fruit Ninja Kinect is amazing. My kids and I rock it all the time and it is so much fun. Seriously, if you have a Kinect and you don't try this, you're really missing out. They also just released the first DLC Pack for it and the word is there's a Halo themed DLC Pack coming soon. Demo . . . GO GET!
  17. Alright, played a good bit of this and I have to say it's pretty fun. It has issues with upgrades and what not, but the art style is amazing. The gameplay sometimes borders on frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, it's a stripped down Metroid.

I don't see any issues that require patching in the game honestly. I have great fun with it.
  19. The latest indie game to win the Dream Build Play challenge is up on the Indie Games channel and it's really really fun. Synopsis: Go try the demo!

Tell him that he gets to progress in the full game and get lava. Then you can set entire tree lines on fire and watch it make its way to their village. The poor little guys screaming as their village burns to the ground is so wrong. I really dig the game a lot. I am not a huge god game fan, but this one has just enough strategy to keep me interested. Only real gripe would be the same cutscene plays after every single level. Other than that, it's great fun to mess around in.
  21. Yeah, they fixed the buy it early thing. Sucks.

  23. Game’s Release Coincides With Announcements About Bonus TMS Content, New Website, and Free DLC for the Original Splosion Man July 13th, 2011 - Austin, TX - Ms. Splosion Man releases today on Xbox LIVE Arcade, but amongst the joy comes the sudden announcement that her TMS could strike at any moment. TMS, or Title Managed Storage, is a special feature of the Xbox LIVE® service that allows Twisted Pixel to present free extra Challenges for the players on a regular basis. These week-long Challenges appear off of the Main Menu and take a level from the game and give it special rules and new content. There’s no predicting the effects of TMS, you just have to adapt to the new rules and do your best to survive until the end. Leaderboards created especially for these TMS challenges rank players on their success at playing the level. “From time to time, we will be awarding real prizes and other fun stuff to the top finishers, and sometimes random players, from the Challenge’s leaderboards,” states Jay Stuckwisch, Marketing Director. “We are finding it harder and harder to ‘one up’ ourselves with new ways of giving away free stuff to people who buy our games, but TMS has opened an exciting new door for us.” Worried that you’ll miss the signs of Ms. Splosion Man’s approaching TMS? Not to worry, the brand new version of www.MsSplosionMan.com launches today, with a wealth of information on story, character bios, game information, and everything you need to know about the next TMS challenge. Free downloadable extras like wallpapers, game soundtrack, and the Ms. Splosion Man development blog are all available there as well. Ms. Splosion Man has garnered rave reviews in the days leading up to her release and follows the adventures of Ms. Splosion Man as she splodes her way free of Big Science and out into the world. Featuring 50 single-player levels and a separate 50 level multiplayer campaign, this sequel to the award-winning Splosion Man brings a host of new gameplay and features like ghost leaderboards, new mechanics, new bosses, extra gameplay modes, and tons of unlockable content. Ms. Splosion Man retails for only 800 points and can be found on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Check out the new trailer below:
