  1. After finishing the Green Day: Rock Band demo the above picture shows the standard Rock Band bass, drum, guitar, and mic icons, but as you can see there is also what appears to be a piano icon. What does this mean for the franchise? What will the set list look like for the next game? Only time will tell, but I think Stevie Wonder (Better than has been previously done with this one hopefully), Ray Charles, Elton John, and other great pianist could easily make their way in to the music gaming fray with this new instrument.
  2. The first webcomic for Crackdown 2 has been released and it gives a little backstory in to the world of Crackdown 2. Take a look at the video embedded below:
  3. Gamestop has announced their new "PowerUp Rewards" program, which rewards its members for spending money in their stores. Standard membership is free and entitles you to earn points against every dollar you spend, and oddly rewards more for purchasing pre-owned games, accessories and consoles. You get ten points per dollar spent on new items whereas buying pre-owned or trading-in will net you twenty points. The PowerUp card also gives you access to giveaways, exclusive news, offers and events as well as rewards as you amass points. With enough points on your card you can choose from a changing list of rewards that includes things like GameStop gift cards and merchandise, iTune Gift Cards, NetFlix and Xbox Live subscriptions, codes to unlock exclusive in-game content and more. Pro membership costs $14.99 a year and gives you all of the above plus a 250 point bonus, a buy 2, get 1 free introductory offer on pre-owned games, 10% discounts on purchases, 10% credit on trade-ins and a year's subscription to Game Informer magazine. It seems like a pretty worthwhile program and you get 500 points for signing up. The program is currently tagged with a "Beta", so who knows if this will actually stay as a program they keep.
  4. There are 3 Deals of the Week this week on Xbox Live and 2 games coming to XBLA. Lazy Raiders, Band of Bugs and Madballs in Babo: Invasion are all reduced from 800 Microsoft Points to 400 this week, while Avatar Wave Snowball Fight is also available for 80 points. Voodoo Dice will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade for 800 MS Points. However the biggest news this week is the arrival of Doom II on XBLA. I'm sure this one will come in at 800 MS Points as well, but a price has yet to be confirmed. This is really great news for fans of the Doom series and I assume we can look forward to Doom 3 hitting Games on Demand pretty soon as well.
  5. The much anticipated release date for Halo: Reach has been announced as September 14th (9/15 in Japan). The pre-order, Limited Edition, and Legendary Edition bonuses have also been announced. Check after the break for screens of the new skins. The Legendary Edition will come with the "Flaming Spartan" skins seen below: While the Limited Edition will get the "Elite Officer" armour for the Covanent: And pre-orders will get the "Spartan Recon Helmet" which has some weird looking antenna or satellite on top of his head: Not bad in this day and age of pre-order and bonus crap for most games.
  6. In a move that really should surprise no one, Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to bring a Mass Effect movie to the big screen. With the success of the game(s), this is no real shocker for anyone. With the likes of Halo, Bioshock, and rumors in the industry of a God of War film, a game with such a deep story could easily be brought to your local cinema. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) has been hired to pen the script. His work hasn't really impressed me thus far, but with him being a more character driven writer, it could be a good thing for this project. Also, if the studio could snag Matthew Fox (Who Commander Shephard's look was modeled after) fresh off his Lost career, the film may have even more of a fan base built in. Let's just hope this project can actually get off the ground, unlike some of the other major game franchise to movie adaptations.
  7. A recent video that showed up on Youtube shows what could be a leaked trailer for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. With new episodes releasing monthly, season passes are available now for the full five game series for $34.95. The PC and Mac version can be downloaded at http://www.samandmaxgames.com/thedevilsplayhouse. “With The Penal Zone launching on four separate game platforms, the new season of Sam & Max is the biggest episodic premiere in Telltale’s history,” said Telltale CEO Dan Connors. “This series has been about pushing boundaries, from humor and story to episodic gaming as a whole. The Devil’s Playhouse continues that tradition, and it’s easily the deepest, most visually stunning season to date. We can’t wait for players both new and returning to dive in.” Also available on the iPad, The Penal Zone was a launch title for Apple’s new tablet device and is available now for the introductory price of $6.99 on the App Store. 13. The controls are fairly typical of the series thus far, but there are enough tweaks to make this installment feel new and different enough. The ability to swap between weapons mid combo is a very welcome addition. Also, this time around, the other weapons you are given actually have a place. You won’t just be using the Blades of Athena throughout the entire game. Each weapon feels different enough and you may even find a favorite other than the standard blades. Upgrading the weapons is the same as before, you collect red orbs and upgrade the weapons as you like. Again, just like the other games in the series, you have no control over the camera, which may cause some rolling around more while trying to adjust the camera. After a little while playing though, you get back in to the swing of things and realize the camera control isn’t really necessary. I never found a place where the camera felt like it was working against me. Graphically the game is super impressive. I’d go out on a limb and say this is the best looking PS3 game to date. As you play though the graphics seem to get better and better. It’s not just the cut scenes that are truly impressive either, as Kratos kills more and more enemies he will become drenched in blood, in real time. There are also so many subtle details that really impress, such as the scaled skin on the Gorgons. As I said, this truly is one of the more impressive PS3 games to date. The ending is very satisfying for fans of the series, but may irritate some. The final battles are epic in scale and you get a real adrenaline rush when you realize you are getting close to the end and start going through those last few quick time events. As with the previous games, most of the finales of the fights are played out through quick time events. The subtle change to these is very helpful. Instead of the button presses being randomly distributed on the screen throughout the fights, they coincide with the actual layout of the controller. Meaning, if you have to press the “O” button, it will always be on the right hand side of the screen, “X” is on the left, etc. There is one section of the game that may take you out of the action by incorporating the actual Playstation buttons in to the game. While small, this may bother some players. Tips and Tricks - Certain enemies require specific weapons to defeat. - Learn each weapon’s strengths and weaknesses. - Be sure to look for upgrades where you see lingering gold dust. - Use magic wisely. In the right situation it can deal tons of damage. - Utilize your roll to get out of the way quickly and keep from being cornered. Reaction I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of the game. The controls are tight and responsive. There were also enough changes made for everything to feel fresh and new again, while still being a God of War game. The game is a graphical powerhouse and is easily the best looking PS3 game to date. The overall story was very well tied up at the end and is filled with just the right amount of twists and turns that will keep you riveted and wanting more. Kratos’ journey for revenge has been a long time in the making and really is one of the best series in gaming today. While I am sad to see it come to an end, if this is how it was meant to go out from the start, I am glad to see things went out with a very big bang. While most long running series tend to lose something in their sequels, this one stayed the course and got better and better. I would highly recommend not only this game, but the entire series to anyone. Spawn gives this one 10 out of 10
  14. Tips and Tricks - Make use of the larger plasma cannon when you can, but do it safely - As with all shmups, try and learn the enemy attack patterns Reaction While the game may be on the short side, it is definitely a great top down shooter. The new gameplay mechanic of having all your ships/lives on screen at once is really fun and can get pretty intense in the later levels. The risk/reward of the more powerful plasma shot versus maneuverability is something I think other games should try and add. For a small developer, this is a pretty big idea for the genre and for only 80 MS Points ($1) this is one that everyone should try out. Give it a demo at the very least. Spawn gives this one an 9 out of 10

"With Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, we're bringing PlayStation fans five months of exciting episodic content and continuing our commitment to deliver exclusive, innovative gaming experiences to the PlayStation Network," said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The unhinged humor, unforgettable cast and irreverent undertone of this enduring franchise are aspects we expect will resonate with our audience, and both Telltale and SCEA can't wait to deliver."
  16. Made as part of the Bricks In Motion Challenge, Youtube user "xxxfancypantsxxx" created this AMAZINGLY done stop motion Lego Star Wars lightsaber battle. I know it's technically not gaming related, but with the popularity of the Lego Star Wars games I thought it would be great to pass along to everyone. Entitles Lego The Force Unleashed, we see Darth Vader's apprentice kick some major butt. Enjoy.
  17. Bungie said they would have a "Multiplayer Bomb" to drop later this week, is this it? If so, it looks pretty great. This may or may not be Halo Reach, but if it's not, it should be. Take a look at the video below. Edit: It appears this is the official trailer. Bungie's YouTube page has been updated with it.
  18. All of us here at Gamercide would like to wish our resident old man the best birthday ever!! PK, we love ya man . . .

  22. Today Ubisoft announced that both Splinter Cell: Conviction and R.U.S.E. have been delayed in to the companies next fiscal year. While Splinter Cell was given a release date, R.U.S.E. was given no tentative date. With both originally scheduled for release in February and Splinter Cell's numerous delays, this may not be a good sign for either.
