DUBL DUECE
ohh those pesky russians, sounds like going low tech is the way to beat them.

Dateranoth
Damn. Pretty crazy stuff. Is this just suppose to be hackers on public wifi or is the government assumed?
PeeKnuckle
I assume it's hackers looking for some easy coin from all the worldly tourists visiting there.
Kira Onime
Let's be honest. Is this really surprising?
PeeKnuckle
For me it's a little bit surprising. Countries do not want to be embarrassed when they host the olympics. This is why Putin released Pussy Riot earlier than expected. He knew news services would talk about them still being locked up for singing a song inside of a church. I expect Russian's government forces to start cracking down on all of this hacking post haste.
MrsBadExample
This doesn't surprise me in the least.
Dateranoth
This is interesting. Saying the news report wasn't completely truthful. http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/06/nbc-hacking-sochi-dispute/
PeeKnuckle
Makes sense. They used brand new laptops fresh out of the box. So while they'd be clean from any pre-existing malware, they also didn't have security updates for the OS or any firewalls (if any).
Dateranoth
I also keep hearing mixed things. That the Russian government is behind some of it. Either way, from all I hear its a shitty place to be right now.
PeeKnuckle
The water issue if true is pretty troubling. Woman notices her hotel room has no running water, calls the front desk, they say it'll be back on shortly, but to not wash your face with that water since it's treated with something harmful. What? PeeKnuckle
The blunder happened when Dmitry Kozak was asked about conditions in hotels and the lack of water, the subjects of ongoing media criticism. Kozak suddenly became defensive and blurted: “We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day.” http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/olympics/sochi-olympics-russia-spies-shower-article-1.1605454 So they're monitoring tourists hotel bathrooms and showers, too. Here's that infamous water from the hotel rooms https://twitter.com/StacyStClair/status/430550673977913344/photo/
Dateranoth
I heard about the camera slip on the radio this morning. Again, no place I want to be.
Skylark95
Can the media just lay off Russia for a sec and let us actually watch the Olympics?
Faperture
So Russia is crazy, we already knew that. At least they're open about it, Americaaaaa.
