PeeKnuckle
Many things can be created with a 3D printer. What will the government say we can and cannot print out for ourselves? Medicine? prosthetic limbs? Guns? This is a technology that is already present and will only get better and cheaper to own. Heck, you could even have a 3D printer, printed out for you by someone who already owns one. http://youtu.be/rO54gzfite4 http://www.defcad.com/ Let's discuss this. DUBL DUECE
I am for it to be honest it is the ingenuity and creative stuff like that usually wins out as the technology gets better and they get better materials heck you could print alot of things, what if it could use organic compounds and print food, it could change alot of things and its usually stuff like this that nobody really sees coming that does change our lifestyles not all the hyped products. It will be regulated, cause someone will fear something "bad will happen" instead of just letting people regulate it or us as users/consumers. How come in a free country(supposedly) is freedom never the answer its always in limiting that freedom?
PeeKnuckle
Wish I knew, Dub. I was reading the comments for the video, and there are some seriously ignorant people in the world. They seem to think that people can't get guns on their own, whether legit or non-legit. Bad people will get ahold of guns no matter what. A law will never change that. It'll be interesting to see how this all progresses. I find it extremely fascinating.
sedington86
It's been something talked about between my brother and I for a while now.. but it's always about how awesome the tech is... how cool it would have been to have something like this in early teen years, and what it would do to a lot of industry if it ever truly caught on everywhere. PeeKnuckle
You can print out parts and assemble them, yeah. Just like most anything with a 3D printer.
DUBL DUECE
On the gun they are trying to print out the reciever which they have done but it only lasted a couple of shots because of the pressure, the barrel I beleive is still metal and that wasnt printed, but most parts like the magazines, stock, grip, and rails were all printed. When stronger material is able to be used it should work better, or if they can figure out how to use some sort of metal in printing that would work as well but hasnt been done yet though so it would be a breakthrough. For the barrel its a differnt issue not sure if they could print one but once they can use metal they will probably try. The reason they can do it is because currently their are no laws against you creating/building your own gun, usually though for the barrel you need some high priced machinery as it is quite technical. PeeKnuckle
Yeah, they're definitely not meant for long time use. If they can fire it once, they've succeeded in making a gun. Then they'll need to wait on the technology to evolve, like treating that plastic barrel with metal compounds or something of the like.

Dateranoth
I think it will come down to the technicalities of design. If, what you are printing, was dreamed up by a person or team as open source then you should be able to print it. If you are copying a manufactured item then it may be frowned upon. Government is always going to attempt to enact control.
MWB
Saw an interview with the young man who designed printer guns. Said he did it so the government could never take all the guns away. At the time of the interview, plans for guns and magazines had been downloaded like 50,000 times. Also skimmed an article of a man who got a section of skull replaced with a 3d printed implant.Saw a prosthetic arm that was 3d printed.Yall seen this?http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1351910088/3doodler-the-worlds-first-3d-printing-pen

SolRush
Being able to print out butt plugs from the privacy of my home how awesome! But seriously the whole gun thing is not new self made guns are call "Zip Guns". The 3D printer just makes it a mass production and turns it from a skilled crafted to a unskilled one and arguably safer for your everyday person (to make and use). I'm not surprised that a gun made it to the internet I'm more surprised there isn't furry My Little Pony porn statues out.

PeeKnuckle
It is not okay for a citizen of the US to 3D print guns, but it's okay if the Navy wants to make a shit ton of drones using 3D printers? http://rt.com/usa/3d-navy-drones-printers-960/
