Morrslieb
The overreacting state. I wouldn't give a child a firearm, but the kid has a license and is well within the law. Them demanding to be let inside of the house and to see the safe despite not having a warrant is a violation of state and federal law. TL;DRDon't trust the police, no justice no peace They got me face down, in the middle of the street Pistol whip me with the heat, chicken shits sizzling Trying to serve me the all-you-can eat murder beef I'm a young, black, heterosexual male Don't drink no drank, don't smoke, don't sale That's the real reason that they want me up in jail They want me to fail, I resist and rebel See I give a fuck about the C-O-P's P-I-G's I wonder if I can shake em' like a P-I-T Cause they wanna see me D-I-E Got me cash under mob, I'm a pre-O.G. Dark Sobe associates, vicious, venomous vocalist Chrome 4-4 toting, holding it down for Oakland Folks do be smoking and shit we do what we holding Some just don't notice they get demoted Throw em' all the time music
PeeKnuckle
My father and I discussed it over the phone tonight. To be absolutely fair to him, he didn't read the article. He was going on my fragmented memory. Anyways, he says it all probably could have been avoided if the father just laid it out that he was a firearms instructor and that his son and guns were licensed. I disagreed and said you never submit to a search without a warrant, and that by saying anything without a lawyer present, is nothing but a bad gamble. I've had "I don't consent to searches" drilled into my head for a long time. Saying so is not an admission of guilt. It's in your best interests, despite what police officers may say. They are allowed to lie to you, and will.
Morrslieb
I agree. If you submit and they find something, you're fucked. If you refuse and they search anyway, it can't be used as evidence against you in a court of law. Even if they find nothing, it's always, always, always in your best interest to deny them a search. What's the point of freedom if you're just going to give it up?-edit-Men, women and children have died for your right to say no. Don't squander what you've been given. DUBL DUECE
Considering no laws were broken and there was nothing wrong done I wouldnt have consented either, I would be pretty irate at the situation, they had no reason to come to his house in the first place, I am tired of the PC bull crap and people getting "upset" at every little thing. I am tired of other people trying to dictate how I should live/speak/act.
Morrslieb
I am tired of other people trying to dictate how I should live/speak/act.That's civilization. It has always been and will always be that way. Without rules the world would devolve into chaos and as fun as that sounds, most people would die if it did occur. Or even better. The corporations would take over, since they have the money to do just that. It would be bad either way.

MrsBadExample
After reading that story, I'm baffled about how this even happened. But I know I sure as hell wouldn't allow anyone into my home to see 'if my guns were registered' without a warrant. The fact the social worker wouldn't even give her name, or let a picture be taken is even worse. I will say, in defense of the police, they were responding to a call. They didn't really seem to pursue the entire thing very fervently - and keep in mind they deal with asshole thugs with unregistered weapons every now and again. There wasn't a beatdown, anyone hurt, anyone arrested, etc. They did leave. They were wrong to be there, yes, however they didn't pursue their course of action, so this isn't something to be absolutely outraged about. Moreso, I'd be outraged about child services. And whoever the fuck called them!
PeeKnuckle
Yeah, I don't fault the police for following up on the call by social services. Social services itself has to go and check out allegations of child endangerment. It was handled terribly, though, and these instances need to be brought forward for all to see in hopes of avoiding them later on.
Morrslieb
"they are required to follow-up on all complaints they receive."What a crock of shit. People phone in all the time and CPA doesn't do a damn thing. The whole story screams encroachment of rights. They threatened the family. With the cops there. That's beyond unacceptable. That's beyond unacceptable.I think it depends on the state you're in, as odd as that sounds. I have a friend who works for the CPA (horror stories, so many horror stories) and in CA they jump on EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING. Get in a rough pillow fight with your kid? Let's fucking investigate. On the flip side, I've also heard some great stories about kids being systematically abused and reported in more 'rural' towns / states, and CPA doesn't do much about it. It just sucks.
