Tritton Headphones

So I sold my Tritton AX 720's for $100 on eBay yesterday. Bought the AX PRO'S on amazon for $160 today, should be here later this week. Wondering what people that have these think, did I make a good decision?

looked around for comparisons but everyone is a fanboy of either Tritton, Turtle Beach, or Astros so its tough to find any non skewed opinions. I loved my AX 720's but I was starting to want more so I needed an upgrade, I was looking elsewhere since Tritton was bought by madcatz, and madcatz sucks so I was worried. But I'm giving them another chance cause they have made me happy so far.

They work amazing for high definition surround sound audio in games, but they can be a bit glitchy. There are workarounds I've found though.

For example, if you want to play a video on netflix, from a harddrive, or from your dashboard, on your Xbox and it isn't in surround sound (they usually aren't), you need to go to Dashboard - System Setting - Audio - Digital Output and set it to Digital Stereo instead of Digital 5.1 (and switch back when done). If you don't do this, the audio can go into a "loud glitchy 'mode'", wherein they sound overly loud and the quality goes down. When this happens (usually when you switch output modes on Xbox, or if they come unplugged somewhere), it will fix when you turn the decoder box off then on again. I basically turn it off then on every time I start a game or video once the audio starts playing.

So there are some bugs, but once you figure out the workarounds the Tritton AX Pros are pretty epic.

If you have some other questions when you get your pair, I might be able to help since I've been using them for several months now. If not, Dateranoth's the one to talk to ;)

You're absolutely correct, Armi. Like consoles, headsets are also victim to fanboys.

I was also worried when Tritton was bought out by Madcatz. However, one positive thing I have seen since the purchase... replacement parts are easier to buy now. It was damn near impossible when Tritton was running things. Now that Madcatz is running it, there's an entire area on their site for replacement parts.

I recently got a pair of turtle beach's dx11 headphones for a review, alas my website still isn't properly setup... and i'm not sure when it will be (sigh). My partners were all good to have me purchase the site and get it going, but then decided their projects were more important than getting the website done.

Anyway, to get back on track, the turtle beach dx11's are definitely NOT worth it. All turtle beach headphones tend to suffer from the power hum, caused by bad hardware design, but once something other than a blank screen comes up they're fine. On these however the hum is all through out. I even tried it with and without the surround sound module, both on the 360 and the pc, but it never goes away. In fact, if you have them on and connected to a controller and then decide to connect a play and charge cable it gets a lot more intense... like a harrier trying to take off (only slight exaggeration).

This was a relatively new product last month, available only at Best Buy, so there's a chance they'll soon fix the problem. Knowing Turtle Beach though, they'll probably just take the product off the shelves and repackage it and the module separately, as they are already sold that way anyway.

Good to know about the turtle beaches having the humming as well. At least with the trittons it goes away when u start playing or watchin something.

U are right about replacement parts being more available for sure that's good news.

Funny u mention about the sound decoder messing up when u start stuff I never had that problem with the ax 720's, but then I never watch movies with them. The only thing I ever noticed is they reset to the default volume on the decoder so id hafeto turn the volume back up when I started anything.

They already shipped today so when I get them I'll let you know what I think and give a comparison between the ax pros and 720's.
