green grenades
This is really starting to bug me. Okay first off the connection here is crap, a really big pile of crap. Second off when I first moved in my friend who has a mac always had to reset the internet on his computer because it would just stop working like every 2 minutes he would have to click the antenna symbol and turn it off and back on. Mine was fine for awhile, it still ran slow but I didn't have to reset it every few minutes now it is doing it to me. I've got no clue what the problem is, I keep having to unplug my wireless adapter and putting it back in. My xbox stays connected to live though, so even though our comps disconnect my xbox does not, even though it runs slow too. Resetting the router does nothing. I asked if we just had the cheapest plan and he said no, I want to say he said there were 3 plans and we got the middle one. He also said the connection here has always been ******, he had some other provider before and it ran like crap too. There is a school directly behind us could they be sucking up bandwidth or anything?Son of a *****, right when I clicked submit post it I had to un/replug my wireless adapter again. It's so annoying.Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu had to do it a second time just to get it to post!
PeeKnuckle
If your wireless router isn't secure, anyone could be leeching off of it, nearby.
green grenades
Nope it's secure.
PeeKnuckle
I don't know how your provider is, but I'd just set up an appointment to have them come check it out. Mine won't come out here, unless something is busted, or flat out not working.
Dateranoth
Is your XBOX wireless too or is it hard wired? Losing your wireless signal should have nothing to do with either your provider or your speed from them. Unless they just so happen to be a wireless air card provider. If it's just a wireless router, the problem is somewhere between the router and your computer. Not that the ISP isn't bad, but likely not the issue in this case. What kind of router do you have, what os are you running, do you pick up any other wireless signals in the area? I am using a linksys wireless extension base. I don't know what os is and when I set up my computer to connect to the network 3 or 4 connections showed all were private except for one, but ours is private because I had to put in the code to get it to work. And do you know the brand of the router you are using and who set it up? When you lose connectivity, what does the wireless icon say? Does it attempt to connect to the unsecure network it sees or does it just say searching for wireless network or anything?

Um AT&T is what we use. Not sure what it says, like the router still flickers like it has a connection but it doesn't have one. It just has the little triangle with the exclamation point on it. It will do the motions after that with the two pc screens flickers back and forth.
Dateranoth
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS, etc? Probably can't help you without some more information. Model of the router and your wireless card should be written on the bottoms or backs of them. Otherwise, if AT&T did set up your connection, and you are renting the router, then I'd advise calling them. If you have one, a cable might be the best option until you can get it sorted out.The basic troubleshooting options are to reset the router by unplugging it for 15 to 30 seconds, and then to reboot your computer. I'll have to get the model of the router in a couple of hours after my roommate goes to work. I can't use a cable because I don't want to stretch it through the house lol. And I've already reset my router 5 times over the past couple of weeks it doesn't make a difference.

Might be able to figure out the problem once I know what the model is. I find it odd that the xbox doesn't drop, but your PCs do. Hard to say for sure. Either way, might still be a good idea to get in touch with AT&T and see if they can get a replacement for the one you have. Never hurts to get an upgrade. Especially if you guys are paying to rent that one.
green grenades
Well I don't see how it would be the router, the previous companies was crap too. Not sure who he used but he said he's always had a crap connection and thought it was the previous provider but when he got at&t it was still ****. green grenades
It says two wired gateway on the bottom of the router if that is what you were asking for earlier.

Dateranoth
Well, its possible it is not the router, but if you are losing wireless signal it shouldn't be related to the company. However, since you rent the modem, your best bet is to call AT&T. It may take awhile to get into tech support, but they will be able to walk you through troubleshooting, and more importantly will be able to remotely change settings in the router. Worse Case Scenario they will send a tech out and hopefully give you a new router. If both computers are dropping the wireless signal, have you guys tried with one of them off and one on. I've been reading certain macs can cause problems with that particular router:http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23984671-ATT-DSL-Keeps-Dropping-Connection-w-Macbook-Pro-Airport
