Cloud Streaming Service Gaikai has been acquired by Sony for a staggering $380 million over the weekend. Gaikai allows gamers to play console and PC games from a webpage or any device that is connected to the internet.
"By combining Gaikai's resources including its technological strength and engineering talent with SCE's extensive game platform knowledge and experience, SCE will provide users with unparalleled cloud entertainment experiences SCE will deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service that allows users to instantly enjoy a broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices." stated Andrew House of Sony Computer Entertainment.
What this means for the the future of Sony with a new console device like the Playstation 4 remains to be seen or talked about. However rumors are already running rampent that Sony will use this aquistion to allow backwards compatibility of previous PS0ne and Playstation Two titles.
